Preparatory Notes
Current plan is to start Lost Mine of Phandelver on Monday 1st December (7pm at the Counting House) then Monday 8th December; probably then break for Xmas and resume 5th January & 12th January. Should be fortnightly after that. The campaign is designed to go from levels 1-5 and my guess would be that is roughly 10 sessions, not sure though.
Dice are good and either the PHB or the Basic players' rules - Basic Rules for Dungeons & Dragons | Dungeons & Dragons - but you don't strictly need any rules for the starter set campaign. There are pregen PCs here - http://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/StarterSet_Characters.pdf - I have print-outs & the box copies so you wouldn't need to bring your own. You can either choose one of these & customise (eg they need a name, & background can be tweaked as desired) or you can make your own 1st level PCs in advance with the Default Array 15 14 13 12 10 8; if you make your own PC you may still want to use elements of the pregen characters' backgrounds.
I have a house rule I'm planning to use to give 1st level PCs more hit points, but we can do that on the night.
